Most people already use ChatGPT to draft, summarize and brainstorm. The bigger productivity gain in 2026 comes from connecting it to the tools where your work actually lives: your inbox, calendar, documents, project tracker, CRM and meeting notes. Plugins make that possible. Each one also changes what ChatGPT can see and do on your behalf.

What is a ChatGPT plugin?

A ChatGPT plugin is an installable package from OpenAI's Plugin Directory. Since July 9, 2026, ChatGPT has plugins again. A plugin bundles apps, skills and app templates for a specific workflow, and the Plugin Directory replaced the previous app directory. The technical foundation is the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard.

These are not the 2023 plugins. The original plugins were shut down in spring 2024 and replaced first by GPTs, then by apps and connectors. If you connected apps under the older system, those connections carried over unchanged. Only the packaging and the storefront changed.

How did we choose these plugins?

We shortlisted plugins that met four criteria:

• Availability. The plugin is listed in the ChatGPT Plugin Directory.
• Breadth. It connects to a tool that a large share of knowledge workers already use daily.
• Useful actions. It does more than search. Ideally it can also create or update work, with appropriate controls.
• Governability. It respects the permissions users already have, and admins can control it.

The list is ordered by how widely each tool is used across roles, with core communication and document tools first and specialized tools after. The order is not a quality score. Your best stack depends on which of these tools your team already runs.

What should you check before connecting a plugin to work data?

Check four things before connecting any plugin to company data:

• Your plan. Plugins are available on consumer plans, and OpenAI's pricing page lists them on Free, Go, Plus and Pro. Workplace data belongs in a Business or Enterprise workspace, where admins can control access.
• Who controls installs. Workspace admins and owners can manage plugins from Workspace settings > Plugins. In Enterprise workspaces, apps are off by default until an admin configures them.
• Whether it can write. Write actions for Google and Microsoft apps stay disabled by default until an admin enables them per app. For write or modify actions, ChatGPT may ask for confirmation depending on context and impact, and some especially risky actions may be blocked.
• What ChatGPT shares with the plugin. Directory listings note that ChatGPT may share relevant chats and memories with the connected app to provide context for your requests. Read that notice for any tool that touches sensitive data.

If your company has an approved-vendor process, run each plugin through it before connecting it to company data.

The 10 best ChatGPT plugins for work

1. Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive)

Best for: Teams on Google Workspace.

• What it does. Lets ChatGPT find emails, check your schedule and draft replies. Connecting Drive means ChatGPT can work with your Docs, Sheets and Slides directly instead of waiting for uploads.
• Security notes. Write actions are off until an admin enables them, as described above.
• Limitations. Synced search across files requires admin setup: if your team needs synced search, an admin must configure it for the whole workspace.

2. Fellow (AI meeting notetaker plugin)

Best for: Using meeting records in ChatGPT to write recaps, draft follow-ups and search past decisions.

• What it does. The plugin searches transcripts, surfaces insights from summaries and tracks action items. It can also add talking points, notes and follow-ups to meeting agendas.
• Security notes. Fellow says its agenda tools respect existing permissions, so users can only edit notes they're allowed to edit, and view-only notes stay read-only.
• Limitations. Per Fellow, the plugin is available only on paid plans (Team, Business and Enterprise). Write access is limited to agendas and agenda templates.

3. Slack

Best for: Finding decisions and context buried in channels.

• What it does. Brings Slack messages into ChatGPT for search and summarization. Slack was one of the launch partners in the original 2023 plugin program.
• Security notes. Admins can review app actions and enable or disable new actions for Slack. That capability is documented in OpenAI's release notes as summarized by third-party guides, so verify it against current OpenAI documentation.

4. Notion

Best for: Teams that keep docs, wikis and project databases in Notion.

• What it does. The Notion plugin combines workspace access with skills for knowledge capture, meeting preparation, research, and turning specs into implementation.
• Security notes. Notion access should follow each user's existing workspace permissions. Confirm this for pages marked private or restricted.
• Limitations. Answers are only as good as the underlying workspace. If your Notion pages are out of date, ChatGPT will confidently repeat stale information.

5. Atlassian (Jira and Confluence)

Best for: Engineering, product and operations teams that work in Jira and Confluence.

• What it does. The Atlassian connector lets ChatGPT search tickets and Confluence pages and summarize them in plain language, such as what shipped, what slipped, or what a planning page decided.
• Security notes. Access follows existing Jira and Confluence project permissions.
• Limitations. Jira-heavy teams may prefer to work directly in Jira for bulk ticket changes. Engineering teams on Linear have an alternative: Linear's listing supports searching, creating and updating issues, projects and initiatives from ChatGPT.

6. Asana

Best for: Turning briefs, brainstorms and meeting outcomes into tracked work.

• What it does. ChatGPT can create and update Asana tasks inside a conversation, not just read projects. That means it can take a call transcript and turn it into a structured Asana project in one prompt.
• Security notes. Task creation is a write action, so decide whether it should require confirmation in your workspace.
• Limitations. Generated projects still need a human owner to check assignments and due dates before they go live.

7. HubSpot

Best for: Sales, marketing and service teams that run their pipeline in HubSpot.

• What it does. HubSpot's plugin supports reading and updating accessible CRM records, including deals, contacts, companies and tickets.
• Security notes. Setup requires a HubSpot account plus Super Admin approval.
• Limitations. Full campaign management still needs the HubSpot dashboard. Salesforce teams should look for Salesforce's own listing instead.

8. Canva

Best for: Anyone who makes their own social posts, slides or one-pagers.

• What it does. Creates, reviews and edits real Canva designs from the conversation. That includes turning an approved post into a carousel with your brand template applied.
• Security notes. Designs are created in your Canva account, so they follow your Canva sharing settings.
• Limitations. Advanced editing still happens in Canva itself. Teams that need design files for designers to keep working on may prefer Figma, whose connected app can generate FigJam diagrams and Figma Slides presentations from text prompts.

9. Zapier

Best for: Reaching tools that don't have their own ChatGPT plugin.

• What it does. Zapier connects over 8,000 apps, including Google Sheets, Slack, HubSpot, Gmail, Shopify and Notion. It fills the gap when a tool isn't in the directory.
• Security notes. Every connected app widens what ChatGPT can reach, so limit Zapier to the specific actions your team actually needs.
• Limitations. Complex automations may still need to be built in Zapier's editor.

10. Microsoft 365 (Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)

Best for: Organizations standardized on Microsoft.

• What it does. Connects ChatGPT to Outlook email and calendar, SharePoint files and Teams. OpenAI has updated scopes and actions in its Microsoft apps to support write actions.
• Security notes. OpenAI advises admins to review Microsoft Entra permissions, RBAC access and the Outlook app's action controls before enabling newly added actions. Company knowledge respects existing permissions, so ChatGPT can only access what each user is already allowed to view.
• Limitations. Write actions aren't available when an app is called through Company Knowledge. Users have to select the app directly to use them.

Start with two or three. Most people only need the plugins connected to where their work already lives. For most teams, that means an email and calendar plugin, a document plugin, and one tool specific to their role, such as a CRM, project tracker or meeting notetaker. Add more only when a repeated task clearly needs one, since every connection expands what ChatGPT can access.
